The Land of Barovia is a Demiplane of Dread, meaning souls could not enter except through the mists. Because of this, there was not enough souls in the land of Barovia for every person in the land of Barovia.
Soulless tended to be distant, logical, slow, uncanny, or lacking emotion. In extreme cases, it appeared as constant mental lethargy.
