1. Locations5. VallakiVallaki

The town of Vallaki was ruled by Baron Vargas Vallakovich. His rule was strict and harsh with the purpose of keeping Strahd von Zarovich out of the town's walls.

Vargas believed he done so by strictly enforcing the Laws of Vallaki. He thought a happy populace would repel the devil and so he especially punished malicious unhappiness, festival attendance, and mentions of Strahd. Some thought he used the people's fear of Strahd to be the despot he desired to be deep down.

The Party was questioned, registered, and processed at the gates of Vallaki before they were allowed in. The Party stayed at the Blueblood Inn and split ways in the morning. There they met Rictavio, a wandering minstrel.

Balthazar Bane and Ismark Kolyanovich went to the Vallakovich Manor to meet Vargas to discuss the unification of The Land of Barovia. Drake went to the Vallaki Church of the Morninglord and spoke with Father Lucian about religion. Drake had borrowed a shovel from Milivoj and noticed that St. Andral's bones are missing beneath the church. Pyrrha Strazni went with Arabelle to find clues about where her parents are.

Izek Strazni found Pyrrha and dragged her away from Arabelle. Ernst appeared and took Arabelle by the end and told Pyrrha that Arabelle is in good hands at the Wachter Manor. Izek told Pyrrha that she had been having dreams about Pyrrha and now they were going to be best friends. Pyrrha agreed and quickly grew attached to Izek. Rowan had just arrived in the city of Vallaki and met with the party at the Blueblood Inn.

Bane and Pyrrha briefly crossed paths in the Vallokovich Manor. Lydia Petrovana had invited Pyrrha for tea, happy to see that Izek had made a friend. Vargas was more skeptical.

The next day, the Party went to the Wachter Manor and met Lady Fiona Wachter, another noble in Vallaki. Fiona Wachter had expressed her dislike of Vargas' rule and helped the party figure out where Arabelle lived and helped disguise Arabelle as well.

Bane went to the church and Drake, Pyrrha, and Rowan went to bring Arabelle home. Bane noticed Father Lucian and Lydia discussing important matters and spoke with them about the bones. Pyrrha, Rowan, and Drake returned Arabelle to Arrigal and Luvash. Afterwards, the Party reconvened by Pyrrha was intercepted by Izek at the church. The rest of the party followed and chased after Milivoj. Izek overheard the commotion and struck down Milivoj.

At the Church of the Morninglord, Father Lucian and Pyrrha healed Milivoj so he could tell them where the bones were. Izek once again galavanted with Pyrrha while the rest of the party learned more from Father Lucian.

The next morning, Milivoj told the party the bones were at Henrik van der Voort's coffin shop. The party and Father Lucian went to the coffin shop and confronted Henrik. Henrik revealed where the bones were but the party was ambushed by vampire spawn, Escher Belasco, and Volenta Belview. Escher escaped but the rest of the vampire spawn and Volenta were slain with the help of Izek and Father Lucian. Unfortunately, Rowan had died.

Vargas, furious that Lucian had not told him about the bones and how it made him look bad, fired Father Lucian. Ireena who Vargas had previously mentioned that she looked like his mother, was taken over the by the soul of Leona Vallakovich, who scolded Vargas for being like his father. Vargas eased on his punishment for the Party, only choosing to make Pyrrha and Drake spend a day in the stocks.

The next day was the Festival of the Burning Sun. The village burned effigies to keep the devil at bay. Vargas decided to hire Pyrrha as the new High Priest of Vallaki and her first job was to execute Milivoj and Henrik for their plot with the stolen bones. Pyrrha spared them but then it had begun to snow.

During the festival Fiona sent her sons, Karl Wachter and Nikolai Wachter to search Rictavio's wagon at the Arasek Shipyard. They released Rictavio's tiger, it mauled Karl and killed Nikolai. After the party helped Rictavio retrieve his tiger, he fled Vallaki.

When Nikolai was returned to her Fiona declared her hatred of the Vallakovich Family. How they laws forbid the worship of Ezra and how Victor Vallakovich killed her daughter. Fiona Wachter's Revolt was set in motion to which, Balthazar Bane, Drake, and Rowan agreed. At the Vallakovich Manor Vargas had ordered Pyrrha to find a way to stop the snow or she was fired.

Pyrrha did not and instead chose to go after The Coven with the party at The Windmill. The party was defeated and Rowan returned to Fiona having been infected with Wereraven lycanthropy.

That night, Rowan transformed, flew around, and harassed guards. The rest of the party was in the Ethereal Plane having escaped the Windmill, at the Blueblood Inn to try to ask the Martikov Family where Rowan was. They too were wereravens but they also did not know where Rowan was. The next morning the Martikovs suggested visiting Kasimir Velikov, a dusk elf wizard at the Vistani camp or their fellow wereraven, Muriel Martikov.

Outside of Vallaki's walls, Rowan ran into Strahd who offered to help return her Party members at a price. Rowan refused despite Fiona's backing on Strahd's deal.

After visiting Kasimir, the party found Muriel. Bane, Drake, and Rowan agreed to use three souls in Kasmir's ritual to return the ethereal Party members to the Material Plane.

Pyrrha rushed from the Vistani camp, awoken by a dream where she saw Rowan being attacked by Izek at the Wachter Manor. Pyrrha interjected on Izek's and Fiona's fight. Pyrrha tried to lead Izek away but Izek did not want to go. Izek nearly killed Pyrrha.

The next day, on the Festival of the Burning Sun, Fiona Wachter's Revolt was put into action. Strahd appeared and ordered Escher and Anastraya Karelova to kill people. Chaos ensued. In the chaos, Anastraya mind controlled Bane to kill Izek. Bahb, Henrik, and Milivoj also died and Vargas had been turned into a vampire spawn. Drake's patron allowed him to share a vision with Izek.

After chasing down Strahd to the Vallakovich manor where Strahd taunted Leona with Vargas' vampiric form. The party learned that Strahd could not leave The Land of Barovia and that The Mists blocked him too. The party killed Vargas once more. After catching Ernst robbing the manor and relieving him of anything they desired they let him go and chose to depart from Vallaki. It was now controlled by Fiona and by extension, Strahd.
